2010 Australian Surf Lifesaving Championships on the Gold Coast
I witnessed one of the biggest sporting events this year, the “2010 Surf Lifesaving Championships” as more than 7500 competitors converged on Kurrawa Beach this week in the Gold Coast, as it welcomes back the Australian Surf Life Saving Championships. It is one of the most-awaited sporting events on the Gold Coast, since Australians can’t go without the idea of surfing.
This years Surf Lifesaving Championships aimed at Aussies Surfing Champs to showcase different awards from different fields. Lifesavers are volunteers that typically patrol in groups under a patrol captain for a given period of time on weekend and public holidays under a roster system. In order to be a surf lifesaver a person must hold a Bronze Medallion or a Surf Rescue Certificate and pass an annual proficiency test.
Lifesaving competition comes with the idea of promoting awareness in response to drownings at local beaches throughout Australia. Different events includes Ironman, Long boat rescue (also called surf boat rescue), R&R (Rescue & Resuscitation), March Past, Beach events (including Beach Sprints, Beach Relays and Flags), Surf Ski, First Aid Competition, Champion Lifesaver and Patrol Competition, Board events, IRB racing. Also, Surf lifesaving Championships aids to compliment healthful techniques in all aspects.
As the games went on, the jam-packed action continues to rock on as different sport events are tackled. As of the recent updates from the game, most of the people involved in the championships were in profound sadness after hearing of the death of the outstanding nipper the Ironman Bird Saxon died. He was swept off by big waves and was hit by his own surf sky while competing in rough condition off the Gold Coast.
Today, Aussies seem to recover on Saxon’s loss. Aussies come to snitch titles from different countries. Now, make sure you don’t miss next year’s excitement and plan your trip to the Gold Coast and be ready for the jam-packed action and the biggest surfing event of the year.
