Celebrate the arts in the Gold Coast Eisteddfod

Australia may be the smallest continent on earth, but I tell you, once you’re there, everything seems to be in a large scale. When it comes to performing arts, nothing would surpass the grandness of the Gold Coast Eisteddfod, the largest Australian festival celebrating the beauty of dance, music, speech, and drama. Yearly, this festival for the performing arts attracts more than 60,000 participants – a proof that in Australia, nobody settles for anything less.

Imagine more than a thousand dance groups, one hundred and sixty-nine choirs, three hundred bands, and a host of orchestras and instrumental groups from all over Australia gathering at the Gold Coast Arts Centre as well as in other large venues such as the Albert Waterays and Robina Community Centre for a period of seven weeks – with all these, the Gold Coast has literally sprung into a living art form!

Eisteddfod has really come a long way since Paul Sharatt conceived the idea of gathering the best of the best young artists from all over Australia into one festival to showcase their talents in 1982. Sharatt may have passed away last year, but his legacy endures. In fact, for this year, his memory shall still be present at Eisteddfod as an annual award with his namesake which shall be awarded to the Most Outstanding Vocal Performer, aged 16 years and above, in the Popular/Musical Theatre sections.

Be a patron of the arts yourself and celebrate the Gold Coast Eisteddfod. This festival will run from August 4 – September 16, 2010.  Of course, make sure that your stay in the Gold Coast will truly be one memorable event for you by coupling your festival experience with the comforts of living. Chevron Towers Resort, a prized gem in the heart of Surfers Paradise, will answer to this, and surely you’d want to come back in this home again and again for another dose of arts, Australian style.
