Surfers Safety in the Gold Coast

The Gold Coast is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Queensland, Australia. If you want to stay right in the heart of all of the action of the Gold Coast, stay at Chevron Towers Resort in the centre of Surfers Paradise.

The Gold Coast is such an amazing city, and its beaches are so alluring that often times, some visitors would just zoom towards the water without considering safety and other precautions. More so, we have encountered news about the sports professionals or locals who met one accident or another due to over-familiarity with precautionary measures.

So, if you are a surfer, visitor, local or just want to go for a swim, when you set to challenge the great, rolling waves of the Gold Coast beaches, always remember these tips:

First, many Gold Coast beaches are meant to be guarded for the safety of its swimmers, so never ever swim without the lifeguards around. Most importantly, swim between the flags, as this is where the lifeguards are guarding.

The sea is one vast area that seems to have no boundaries. But there are boundaries to fun, and if you want to ensure that your holiday wouldn’t leave you with frightful swimming memories, you have to swim between the red and yellow flags.

Signposts are used to remind us of the precautions we have to take. Therefore, respect whatever warning signs that you might see; they aren’t placed there for nothing.

Waves can be to enticing, yet too risky, so before surfing, you have to make sure of the beach conditions.

If you are going to try surfing for the first time, invest in some surfing lessons where experienced surfers will train you in shallow water and teach you to look out for rips and dangerous water conditions. Never ever surf or enter the ocean if under the influence of alcohol. The tour desk at Chevron Towers Resort can help you book your surfing lessons at one of the many Gold Coast surf schools.

Also remember that the Gold Coast sun can be very hot in the summer months from December – February. Overexposure to sun can cause sunburn, sunstroke and even eventually skin cancer. Apply sufficient sunscreen and if necessary, avoid basking in the sun between 11 am to 2 pm.
