The Gorgeous Gold Coast…

Watching the opening ceremony of the 2000 Sydney Olympics, I was awed by the spectacular lighting of the Olympic flame wherein the cauldron was initially submerged in water. A friend who lived in Australia that time said that Australia can never do without the idea of water. Aussies just love the sea so much, and this love is shared by millions who flock to the country to bask on its beaches, surf its waves, and explore its reefs.  No wonder the Gold Coast has been a source of admiration for many writers and visitors alike.

This city in Queensland is indeed just like gold in the form of water. From its immaculate beaches rises a throbbing city that welcomes 10 million tourists annually. And who won’t be welcomed by a sunny atmosphere that stays all year, the 60-kilometers of surfing beaches, seemingly endless waterways, the rainforest, hinterland, hundreds of resorts to choose from and a vibrant nightlife? Moreover, it really is custom-tailored for international tourists, as it has its own Airport that connects it to the rest of the world.

Just as the Gold Coast is connected by air, it also extends its wonders via the canals. These canals have extended the arms of the Nerang River, which, historically, is the area where the first settlers decided to stay. The Gold Coast waterfront has been lined with residential homes and resorts. Moreover, these waterways provide access to nearby tourist hubs such as the South Stradbroke Island, The Spit, and The Broadwater. In the end, these waterways lead to the Pacific Ocean where more wonders are bound to be explored.

All these wonders are jam-packed in one special area. Around two centuries ago, the early Australians have struck a goldmine here. Now, we modern-day tourists are still striking the same.
